'When the era of live radio was giving way to the disc jockey'
Er war einer der letzten Live-Radiopräsentatoren: Jim Reeves, Countrystar
und einer der ersten 'Masters of Ceremony' der Musikgeschichte. Immer um ein
Uhr Mittags musste man das Radio einschalten, um die 'Jim Reeves Show' eine
Stunde lang auf den Sendern der American Broadcast Company (ABC) zu hören.
Das Plattenlabel "... AND MORE BEARS" hat jetzt eine komplette Jim Reeves Show
vom Montag, den 24. Februar 1959 auf CD herausgebracht, damit alle
Zuspatgeborenen auch einmal die Chance bekommen, zu hören wie Radio mal
gemacht wurde. Es treten auf: Buddy Hall und Dolores Watson, das Owen
Bradley Orchestra, the Anita Kerr Singers und natürlich Jim Reeves.
Eigentlich war dieses Radioformat bereits überholte Vergangenheit,
Livesendungen sollte es in Zukunft nur noch im Fernseheh geben, im Radio
begann die Ara der plattenauflegenden DJ's und des Rock 'n' Roll.
Den altbackenen Countrysound wollte niemand mehr hören, der poppigere
Nashville-Sound war das nächste grosse Ding mit seinen Interpreten: Patsy
Cline, Ferlin Husky und - natürlich Jim Reeves.
Die Satokii Sendung übergibt heute das Mikro an Jim Reeves selber, und er
soll es uns mal beweisen: "Pop didn't kill country - it merely gave it new shape" (Ausserdem wollten wir schon immer mal wissen, wie das Wetter am 24. 2. 1958 eigentlich war).
